“If My Luck Ran Out” marks the first original song released by Service Pack Three, the electronic music project of Greg Bueno.

Oddly enough, the song is steeped in alt-rock influences with a dash of synthesizer reminiscent of ’80s new wave. But there are no actual guitars, drums or bass on the track — they were all created with sample libraries.

Even the singers aren’t real — they’re vocal synthesizers.

But the music, lyrics and arrangement are all human.

Music technology is heading into spaces with unknown consequences, but this track attempts to see how a balance can still be struck between person and machine.
